Liver Diseases - Hemangioma


A hemangioma is a benign tumor consisting of dilated blood vessels. When a hemangioma occurs in the liver it is called a hepatic hemangioma. It is the most common benign tumor of the liver with a reported incidence of 1-20%.
Most report suggest its predominant prevalence in women. This tumor can occur at any age group, most commonly found in the 3rd, 4th and 5th decades.

Signs and Symptoms:

  • Small, solitary lesion

  • Uncommonly presents as large mass

Diagnosis:

  • MRI abdomen or CT abdomen with IV contrast

  • Angiography

Treatment:

  • Surgical resection for symptomatic tumors
